Taylor Cook played the Minstrel Cafe in support of his new "Here We Go" CD released last year.
Accompanied by local jazz veterans Bernie Addington on upright bass and Scott Gamble on drums, Taylor welcomed many friends to the band stand and played a wide range of styles over the course of the evening. Taylor displayed both a youthful exuberence as well as a level of restraint and musicality that is often lacking in younger players.
While the musical guests all had chops, this reviewer would have rather heard more of the core group of players behind Cook and his personal approach and style. In fairness to the evening, it should be mentioned that we only caught the last set.
Taylor Cook would appear to have a bright future as his concept and approach continue to mature. His present shines well enough already.
