The Stories Behind The Songs

British Columbia country music artist Ben Klick hosted the first ever BreakOut West BOW in the ROW songwriters circle at BNA Brewing Company & Eatery on the day following the main festival and conference in Kelowna, BC.
Klick, who played several shows during the week, invited fellow BreakOut West performers The Heels (Bobbi Smith, Brittni Domenelli and Kyla Rawlins) to join him, along with other Canadian country artists Brock Andrews and Lisa Nicole.
The artists took turns introducing each of their songs and giving a little background into where the songs came from. By the end of the session Klick, Andrews, Nicole and The Heels had each provided insights into 3 of their tunes and followed those stories up with acoustic performances of them.
Intimate details were revealed, admonitions and warnings were given, and lots of laughter was shared between the performers and the assembled crowd.
Country music, perhaps more than any other genre, has always been first and foremost about the song. These emerging artists shone a bright light on the fact that the art and craft of songwriting has never been in better shape than it is today.
This unassuming and intimate gathering proved to be one of the highlights of the entire weekend.
